Research Notes:
Lord of Belvoir [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p380, Sanders Baronies p12]
Founder of Belvoir Priory [Ref: Round Belvoir p106]
there are doubts concerning his place in the Tosny famiy, but it is probable
that he was the brother of Roger I de Tosny (ob.c.1039), the Hereditary
Standard Bearer of Normandy, whose eldest son Ralph III de Tosny, Lord of
Coches and Seigneur d'Acquigny (ob.1102) wa founder of the great Tony line of
Anglo-Norman barons [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p288]
relative of Robert of Stafford and Ralph de Tosny; from a branch of the Tosnys
that held lands at Guerny and Vesly, Eure, cant Gisores [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP
p380]
was probably of this Tony family, though the link has not been ascertained
(citing Loyd, Anglo-Norman Families, p104) [Ref: Wagner EnglishGenealogy p72]
1063: occurs in a Marmoutier charter [Ref: CP XII/1 p755(c), Keats-Rohan DP
p164]
1086: Domesday Lord of Belvoir [Ref: Green Belvoir p1, Keats-Rohan DP p380,
Sanders Baronies p12]
founder with his wife of Belvoir priory, a cell of St Albans [Ref: Keats-Rohan
