there are doubts concerning his place in the Tosny famiy, but it is probable that he was the brother of Roger I de Tosny (ob.c.1039), the Hereditary Standard Bearer of Normandy, whose eldest son Ralph III de Tosny, Lord of Coches and Seigneur d'Acquigny (ob.1102) wa founder of the great Tony line of Anglo-Norman barons [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p288]

relative of Robert of Stafford and Ralph de Tosny; from a branch of the Tosnys that held lands at Guerny and Vesly, Eure, cant Gisores [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p380]
