inherited Barony of Pevensey from father [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136]

opposed King Henry in Normandy during the lifetime of his father [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136]

1106: succeeded his father in Normandy [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p209]

1118: succeeded to his father's Norman estates [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p284]

1118: claimed possession of his English lands (barony of Pevensey); he was refused, but within a short time made peace with the king and possibly held the lands during the reign of Henry I [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136]

Henry I intended his younger brother to inherit the English lands, a normal form of dividion perhaps made more desirable because Richer had earlier rebelled against Henry. He did so again, holding out for the whole of his father's inheritance, whichpolitical expediency eventually obliged Henry to give him [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p284]

lost control of Pevensey during reign of Stephen, who granted the honour to Gilbert, Earl of Pembroke [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136]

Orderic Vitalis gives a full account of Richard's activities in Normandy up to 1141 [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136(3)]

1137: he was given Bonsmoulins in Normandy by King Stephen as the price of his support [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p285]

8 Sep 1140: captured by Robert de Belleme and was not released until 1141 [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p285]

1151-2: Henry of Ajnou (Henry II King of England) fought against Richard in Normandy [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136(4)]

1155: gave a long charter for the endowment of a priory of Saint-Lomer [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p285]

1158: restored to his lordship of L'Aigle, despite hi resistance to Henry of Normandy in 1152/3 [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p285]

1158: mentioned in Pipe rolls for Mich 1158 [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136]

1163-65: seems to have gained control of Pevensey [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136]

1165: answered for 15 pounds 5s, a sum which suggests that he was the tenant of a large estate [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136(5)]

1166: stated that 35 1/2 knights' fees had been enfeoffed at the time of Henry I and the wording of this charter indicates that he was the man who held the estate at that time [Ref: Sanders Baronies p136(5)]
