Research Notes:
claim for rev war pension was rejected as she was not a widow at the time
the act was passed [Ref: Casanova RevWarAbs v23p104-Ward]
will dated Apr 18 1845. Stating that her husband had made ample
provisions for their children after her death in his will, she bequeathed to
her niece Sarah Wilson (dau of her deceased brother Asa Wilson of Perry County
Ohio), who had cared for her since 1827 or 1828, livestock and household
items, and, according to the promise of Joseph Burgess, he was to give Sarah a
horse when she needed it or the money to buy one. Lucy also bequeathed a red
heifer to Zermiah Danison in consideration of certain favors. Recorded in

Sworn statement of Children of Edward Ward in application for their Mother's
Widow Pension
State of Ohio
Madison Township
Perry County
On this 12th day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
fifty one, personally appeared before me the undersigned, a Justice of the
Peace for the County and State aforesaid, William Ward, who having duly sworn
according to Law on Oath declareth and saith that his Father Edward Ward was a
Revolutionary soldier and drew a pension of Twenty four dollars per annum up
to the date of his death, August 25th AD 1840 in the County and State
aforesaid, that he was married to his wife Lucy Ward, who was Lucy Wilson
before marriage on the 6th day of August AD 1779 and who survived the death of
her said husband until the 27th day of May AD 1847, having drawn no pension
during this time to which she was entitled by law and that she and her husband
both died leaving these surviving and now only living the following Children
To Wit: John Ward, James Ward, William Ward, Jeremiah Ward and Anna Burgess
(who was Anna Ward) all of whom are over Twenty One years of age and that this
declaration is made in order that they may obtain the pension their Mother,
Lucy Ward, was entitled to after the death of their Father and her husband,
Edward Ward, and which she had not drawn and for further evidence of the
services of their Father reference is made to his papers on file in the proper
office at Washington City D.C upon which his pension was granted. /s/ William
