Eaton Bray was held by the bishop of Bayeux in reign of William the Conqueror; escheated to the crown and was granted to varied individuals until it came to William Cantelou for the service of 1 knights' fee [Ref: Sanders Baronies p39(9)]

Jan 1211: by a fine, levied before the King at Westminster, acquired the manor of eole Brace, co Salop, to be held of Roger de Mortimer by the service of one knight's fee, in exchange for 300 marks of silver (Audulf II de Braci to hold a moiety of de Cantelou, by the service of half a knight's fee) [Ref: John Ravilious SGM 8/2/2003-172853]
