at Runnimede with King John, and is listed as one of the advisors of the King in the preamble to the Magna Carta; later he supported the 25 Barons [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p293]

1206: granted custody of the Honour of Leicester [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p294]

1217: one of King John's generals at the battle of Lincoln [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p293]

1219: made Commissioner (warden or governor) of the Channel Islands, with his nephew Philip II appointed as his Deputy [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p293]

spent most of his life devoted to England, serving three kings in succession, Richard, John, and Henry III [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p292]

after his father died in 1191 he took care of the family inheritance, and was largely instrumental by 1205 in relieving the properties of the huge debts left by his father [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p292]

1227: referred to as Ralph's brother in the mandate of 1227 requiring Philip to provide dower from Ingelby for Ralph's widow Maud [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p292]

1231: manor of South Petherton was finally granted to him by charter, though he previously held it 'of the bail' of King John and King Henry [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p293]

1234: made a gift of South Petherton to his nephew Ralph III when he was preparing for his next (and last) pilgrimage to the Holy Land [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p293]

1235: his nephew Ralph III granted a license as "Philip's kinsman and heir" [Ref: Daykin Daubeney p294]
