younger scion of the Carlton branch of the family, the baronial name of

settled on a plantation in Oley Twp, Berks Co, known as the Stapleton Place;
over 400 acres on the Manatawny Creek, immediately south of the Oley Churches

1734: had a tract of land surveyed, adjoining his own [Ref: Montgomery

1736: granted a warrant for 200 acres, originally surveyed for Thomas Miller

hundred and seventy Between Tobias Stapleton and Barbara his wife, Charles
Stapleton and Sarah his wife, Frederick Painter and Mary his wife, Woolrich
Mours and Hannah his wife, Connor Arnold and Sarah his wife, Henry Hether and
Barbary his wife, eldest son and heir at law of Michael Hattnia deceased and
Elizabeth his all of the Parish and County of Frederick in the Colony of
Virginia and William Stapleton and Annahenny his wife John Stapleton and
Margaret his wife Samuel Dark and Catharine his wife, and Frederick Cutley and
Margaret his wife all of the Province of Pennsylvania of the one part and
Andrus Hudlow of the aforesaid Parish and County of Frederick in the sd Colony
of Virginia of the other part Witnesseth That for and in consideration of the
sum of Ten Pounds to each Current money of Virginia to the said Tobias
Stapleton, Charles Stapleton, Ferdinand Painter, Woolrich aHours, Conrad

formerly granted by deed from ye proprietors office of the northern neck of
Virginia bearing date the third day of February One thousand Seven hundred and
forty nine to Thomas Holdman and by him conveyed by deed of seove(?) and
Release bearing date of 18th day of May 1752 to Robert Stapleton dece and now
of record in the county court of Augusta in the said Colony of Virginia, and
by the Last will and Testament of the said Robert Stapleton likewise of record
in the County Court of Frederick in the sd Colony devised the said Tract of
Land to his wife Catherine for and during her natural life and after her
decease to be equally divided amongst all his Children to wit Tobias
Stapleton, Charles Stapleton, William Stapleton, John Stapleton, Catharine now
ye wife of Samuel Dark, Margaret the wife of Frederick Cutley, Mary the wife
of Frederick Painter, Hannah the wife of Woolrich Myers, Sarah he wife of
Leonard Arnold, Barbary the wife of Henry Hotscot, and Elizabeth the wife of
Michael Hetner deceased, as by the said will relation being thereunto had may
more at large appear which said Tract of Land is situated in Parish and County
of Frederick (later Augusta) and on the south fork of Holman's Creek and
bounded as followeth Beginning at three white oaks corner to George Brocks
also the Beginning fries(?) of Peter Catners survey thence with the P Brocks
line south twenty five degrees east one hundred and sixty three poles to
Broch's Corner in Mary Hill's line thence with her line South sixty five
degrees west two hundred and sixtypoles to a white oak corner to Mary Hill
thence the same course one hundred poles to another cornet white oak thence
north twenty seven degrees thirty minutes west two hundred and fixty two poles
to a stake in Ruddles line about sixteen poles from his corner thence with his
line East two hundred and thirty four poles to a stake between two small

are seized of a good and perfect and indevisible estate of Inheritance in fee
