held land in England after the Conquest, but returned home under suspicion of incompetence in the early 1070s. Symeon of Durham wrote "of little use in difficult affairs, he returned to his homeland" [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p131]

died c1079, falling fictim to a plot orchestrated by his wife Ada and her lover and subsequent second husband Engeran. He had been alerted to the plot by his sister Ermengarde, but had trusted his wife instead. [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p131]

at time of Domesday survey most of the landhe had held was still in the king's hands; though it is entered there in his name, the text normally states that he had held it, and not that he still held it [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p131]
