Research Notes:
window in the church of Wiston, Sussex, commemorates Lady Agnes de Brewes,
showing the Brewes arms impaled with Clifford [Ref: Richardson MCA p814,
Richardson RoyalAnc v5p143(10)]
Brewes arms impaled with Clifford were liewise included among a series of
heraldic escutcheons found at the tomb of Agnes' grandson, Thomas de Brewes,
Knt, at Horsham, Sussex. [Ref: Richardson RoyalAnc v5p143(10)]
1358: Agnes's son, Thomas, was styled "kinsman" (consanguinei) by John de
Grandison, Bishop of Exeter. Grandison's great-grandfather, Robert de Tregoz,
of Esyas Harold, was the half-brother of Roger de Clifford, of Tenbury,
Worcestershire. Given the heraldic evidence, and the kinship to Bishop
Grandison, it seems likely that Agnes was the daughter or grand-daughter of
Roger de Clifford, Knt (who died 1286) (#10203) [Ref: Richardson RoyalAnc
v5p143(10)]
