Research Notes:
abundant evidence exists to prove that Dunbeath's daughter Marion was a legitimate child of his first marriage to Marion of the Isles. Based on her favored treatment in the testament, the statements of the early Scottish genealogists, and the fact that she married the powerful Earl of Caithness and Orkney, the conclusion that Marjory was also marion's daughter seemed unexceptionable. But in fact the same evidence which proves that Marion was a legitimate daughter proves that Marjory was not. [Ref: MacEwen 7Countesses Caithness p86]

Marion being sole heir of Dunbeath's marriage to Marion of the Isles is proven by the grant of 24 Oct 1439 by the Earl of Ross to his brother-in-law and sister and their heirs the lands of Dunbeath and Reay, and an inquest at Inverness finding that Marion was the sole heir to these lands. [Ref: MacEwen 7Countesses Caithness p87]

grant of 13 Aug 1449 by John, Earl of Ross and Lord of the Isles, of the lands of Easter Kindeace, to Dunbeath and his heirs general (not to his heirs by Marion). These lands were also inherited by Marion alone. Therefore Marjorie was not a legitimate daughter [Ref: MacEwen 7Countesses Caithness p87]

mistress of William Sutherland prior to their marriage; indications are that at least three children (Oliver, William, and Catherine) were born in the early 1450s [Ref: MacEwen 7Countesses Caithness p89]
