1155: his capture of the regent Eudo de Porhoet brought Conan IV to power [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p461]

1162: nominated guardian of the daughters and heiress of John II of Dol before the latter's death, but custody of John's heirs and lands were seized by Henry II [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p461]

1166-73: celebrated opponent of Henry II in Brittany, which led to the loss of his English revenues; his lands and those of his brother William were recorded as in the king's hands [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p461]

1173: rebuilt the castle at Fougeres and, in alliance with the other local siegneurs, including Harscoit de Saint-Hillaire and Eudo de Porhoet, again challenged Henry. At the subsequent siege of Dol he gave his sons as hostages to Henry, with whom he concluded a lasting peace at this time [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p461]
