before 1072: one of the five castellans holding the militarily iomportant Sussex Rapes; his holding was known later as the Rape or Honour of Bramber [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p471]

also had holdings in the south-west in Dorset, and in Hampshire [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p471]

founded a priory of Saint-Florent de Saumur at Sele in Sussex [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p471]

some of his grants were the subject of a series of disputes, some of them with his son Philip [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p471]

wife's identity is unknown, but she was probably a close relative of Ralph son of Waldi for whose soul William made a grant to Saint-Florent in the 1080s [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p471]
