With regard to the parentage of Walter de Beauchamp, steward to Henry I, Paget in his Official Baronage for "Beauchamp, of Elmley" (No. 39) notes that he was "possibly a younger son of the first Hugh de Beauchamp of Bedford, though the exact relationship to the other members of the family has never been satisfactorily decided."
