article in Allegheny County Illustrated, dated c1895:
John H. Myers; Manufacturer of Oil Barrels, Etc.: No. 97 Third Street,
Allegheny. -- A thoroughly skilled exponent of this highly important craft in
Allegheny is Mr. John H. Myers. This time-honored, but ever progressive
house, was established thirty-five years ago by the father of the present
proprietor, who retired in favor of his son immediately prior to the civil
war. The plant covers a lineal ground area of 100x60 feet, enclosing ample
yardage and workshops, the latter equipped with all the latest improved tools
and appliances known to this branch of industry. A full force of skilled and
experienced workmen is provided with constant employment, the range of
production embracing all kinds of cooperage, specialties being made of oil
barrels, beer, wine and liquor kegs. That these goods are maintained at an
exceptionally high standard as to material used and general reliability is
amply evidenced by the large and steady demand for the same through Allegheny,
Pittsburgh, and their environs. Mr. Myers is of German nationality, now
resident in the United States since boyhood. [Ref: AlleghenyCoPA Illustrated
