1169-83: Sheriff of Northumberland [Ref: Weis AR7 #42]

Mich 1172: paid 37s 6d scutage for the fee which he held of the fee of Adam de Brus. This represented a holding of 1 7/8 knights' fees, and there seems no doubt that it included the manor of Burton Agnes and lands belonging thereto [Ref: Farrer EYC v9p28]
