Research Notes:
Following Margery de Umfreville's death, there was an inquisition taken at the feast of St. Peter in Cathedra in 20 Edward I (that is, 22 February 1292). The jurors stated that Richard de Umfreville (grandfather of Gilbert de Umfreville who now is) gave the manor of Barrasford, Northumberland to Roger de Merlay [II] in free marriage with Margery his daughter and to their heirs of the body of Margery. The jurors further stated that Margery died without issue ("Margeria obiit sine herede de corpore suo.") and that the manor of Barrasford should revert to Gilbert de Umfreville who now is who is the heir of Richard de Umfreville his grandfather.
