925: name first appears on charters; witnessed at least 35 documents as minister during 925-941, and 29 as dux over 942-9 [Ref: Barlow Godwine p35]

regrant from king of one of his properties, Hwituntune, in consequence of the original title papers lost in a fire [Ref: Barlow Godwine p35]

held Ogburn & Washington by devise [Ref: Weis AR7 #1B]

931: in possession of land adjoining Clere, an estate held by his brother Aethelwold; all four brothers witnessed the document, Aelfstan signing as ealdorman and the other three as thegns [Ref: Barlow Godwine p35]

bequests in Aethelwold's will were Ogburn in Wiltshire and Washington in Sussex. Ogburn was held at the time of King Edward by Earl Harold Godwinesson; Washington was held at that time by Earl Gyrth Godwinesson, and its dependencies, Ashington and a one-hide tract in East Esewrith Hundred, were held by Earl Godwine [Ref: Barlow Godwine p35]
