1086: recorded in Domesday Book; held the manor of Gestingthorpe n Essex
in chief of the king. Also in Essex he rented land in the king's hand in
Shalford and Finchingfield and three houses in Colchester which belong to

1087: on death of William the Conqueror, Otto erected a tomb over him as a
splendid memorial; in 1562 the tomb was destroyed by the Calvinists [Ref:
