OBITUARY: Watertown Public Opinion
Mrs. T.C. McBath Dies Here At 84
Had Been Resident Here for 73 Years
Mrs. Thomas C. McBath, 84, a resident of Watertown for 73 years, died early
today at her home, 215 Frist St. S. W.
Mrs. McBath suffered a fall about 12 weeks ago and was hospitalized with a
fractured hip for several weeks.
She returned home later and was cared for there until her death.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Shaw-Messer Chapel
preceded by a service in the
Thomas McBath residence. The Rev. Allen E. Wittrup, pastor of the First
Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be at Mt. Hope cemetery.
The body will be at the Shaw-Messer chapel until the services.
The family has suggested that memorials be given to the Jenkins Memorial
Home.
Mrs. McBath was born Aug. 24, 1868, in Viroqua, Wis., the daughter of the
Rev. and Mrs. Albon D. Chase.
She came to Dakota territory with her parents in the early 1880's, settling
at Watertown. Her father was the pastor of the Methodist Church here.
Mrs. McBath attended Watertown schools and graduated from high school here.
She married Thomas C. McBath Sept. 11, 1887.
She was a member of the First Methodist church here and was a former member
of the Easter Star and the Degree of Honor.
Three of Mrs. McBath's sons served in World War I and two grandsons served
in World War II.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Grace McBurney of Watertown; four sons, Earle
and Wilbur McBath of Watertown, Harry of Salem, Ore., and Roy McBath of
Virginia, Minn.,; one brother, Isaac Ashbury of Portland, Ore.;, and five
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died in May 1940. [Ref:

McBath Service Conducted Here
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas McBath, 84, 215 1st St. S.W., resident of
Watertown for 73 years who died Wednesday, were held Friday in the Shaw-Messer
chapel.
The Rev. Allen E. Wittrup, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated
and burial was in Mount Hope cemetery.
Mrs. W.R. Chambers sang two hymns and was accompanied by Mrs. Merlin
Billington, who also played the prelude and recessional music.
Casket bearers were H.H. Haywood, J.H. Thorpe, C.L. Chase, Edward M.
Belatti, Dave Olson and Walter Earl. The McBath Coal Company and Haywood's
Jewelry Store were closed during the service.
Relatives attending the services included Mr. and Mrs. R.F. McBath,
