Services for Earl McBath to be Tuesday
Services for Earl McBath, 84, 606 1st. N. W. will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in
the First Congregational Church. The Rev. A. R. Tinge will officiate. Mrs.
Harold Collins will be the organist and Robert Carey will be the soloist.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Raleigh Gordon, Lyle Barber, Don Allen, Marvin Currey,
Nels Bale and Jack Terveen.
Visitation at the Shaw-Messer Funeral Chapel will be Monday from 8 a.m. to
5:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon.
Mr. McBath died early Friday morning in a local hospital. He was born Jan.
5, 1889, in Willow Lake, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McBath. The
family moved to Watertown in 1891. He attended school here and was graduated
from Watertown Business College.
On Oct. 24, 1916, he married Edna Harvey. He was owner-manager of the McBath
Coal and Coke County until he retired several years ago.
Mr. McBath served four terms on the city council. He was vice president of
the council in 1966 and president in 1967. He served on eight major committees
and was chairman of the cemetery committee for three years.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church, a life member of the
Elks Lodge and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. He was also treasurer of
the YMCA board for more than 25 years; worked on each membership campaign of
the Watertown Concert Association; and was an active member of the Watertown
Area Arts Council.
The family prefers memorials of the donors' choice.
Survivors include his widow; one son, Dr. James H. McBath, Pasadena,
Calif.,; three grandchildren; and three brothers, Harry, Salem, Ore., Roy,
