OBITUARY: Watertown Public Opinion, May 4, 1992
Wilbur McBath
Funeral services for Wilbur M. McBath, 94, Watertown, will be at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday in the Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Karen E. Hall
officiating. Mr. McBath died May 3 in a Watertown nursing home.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors provided at
the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Stemwedel, Ario Remmers, Lew
Leuerstein, Larry Webb, Wally West and Dallas Butterbrodt. The organist will
be Eugene Doutt.
Visitation will be in the Trinity Episcopal Church Chapel today (Tuesday)
from 7 to 9 p.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday. Relatives will meet at the
church by 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Shaw-Messer Funeral Chapel is in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. McBath was born April 7, 1899, in Watertown to Thomas and Effie (Chase)
McBath. He attended Watertown elementary and high schools and served wit the
Student Army Training Corps during World War I.
He worked two years with the Peoples Savings Bank in Watertown and entered
private business in 1922, the Tire and Sales Service.
He married Eunice Lockie Oct. 26, 1921. Mr. McBath served as alderman from
the 3rd Ward on the City Council from 1933 to 1935 and during the 1930s acted
as assistant county director of Federal Work Relief.
Following the depression years, he became associated with the Watertown
Clinic as account adjuster. He joined Midland National Life Insurance Co., in
1950 as supervisor for supplies. He semi-retired from Midland in 1966, but
remained as part time assistant until 1971. Mrs. McBath died in 1976.
Mr. McBath served as secretary of Vestry for 25 years, as a choir member for
40 years and as assistant treasurer in the Trinity Church. He was a former
member of the Masonic bodies and Elks Lodge 838 and a member of American
Legion Post 17 and United Commercial Travelers.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. (Eugene) Sue Lindner of Littleton, Colo.:
