RICHARD M'BATH DIES OF INJURY
Little Son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McBath, Succumbs to Spinal Meningitis Spinal meningitis, which developed after a head injury, brought death to Richard Earl McBath, seven year old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McBath of 606 First street, N. W., about 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at a local hospital.
The little boy fell from a barn loft to the concrete floor below while at play with a group of children last Monday afternoon. He was unconscious when he was found and after regaining consciousness during the night, his condition seemed to improve rapidly until he suffered a relapse early Friday morning. He was taken to the hospital that afternoon, where x-ray examination revealed the presence of a small basal skull fracture. The child's condition became steadily worse, despite all that could be done. He died less than five days from the time of injury.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the First Congregational church. Rev. R. R. Trickery, pastor of the church, will have charge of the services and burial will be made at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Richard Earl McBath was born in Watertown on September 19, 1925. He had been a member of the second grade at Mellette school. He is survived by his parents and by one brother, James Harvey. [Ref: Margot Dudewicz 7/28/2005]

OBITUARY: Watertown Public Opinion
RICHARD M'BATH FUNERAL IS HELD; BURIAL MT. HOPE
Funeral services for Richard Earl McBath, seven years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McBath of Watertown, were held from the First Congregational church here Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
A profusion of flowers sent by the little boys playmates, acquaintances and relatives, added to the beauty of the simple church service.
Rev. R.R. Trickey, pastor the church, preached the funeral sermon and had charge of the committal service at the grave. Burial was made at Mount Hope cemetery.
The ball bearers were John Guddad, Glenn Davey, George L. Jackson and J.B. Shirk. Ushers at the church were George Baker and A.R. Ferguson.
Miss Monemia Evans sang "Little Pink Rose," while Mrs. J. B. Shirk played the accompaniment and Walter Earl played the violin obbligato. The processional and recessional numbers were piano violin duets played by Mrs. Shirk and Mr. Earl.
The church was filled with those who had come to pay their last respects to the little boy whose death followed an accident while he was at play with a group of companions a little more than a week ago. Richard died at a local hospital last Saturday afternoon, a few hours after spinal meningitis developed, when physicians believed the boy was well on the road to recovery. He was a pupil at Mellette School and attended the Congregational Sunday school. [Ref: Margot Dudewicz 7/28/2005]
