Research Notes:
Emigrated in 1740, plus or minus perhaps a year. There is rather strong reason to believe that he came with several of his relatives, but there is no proof of it. Just where he first settled is not definitely known, but tradition has it that his son, John, was born in New Jersey, and it is known that he was born in 1756. Probably landed in Philadelphia, and probably settled first in New Jersey. [Ref: Jackman TODD G1, Jackman TODD p1]

John TODD and William TODD appear as taxables in Bedford Township, Bedford County, PA, in 1776; Samuel TODD and John TODD are shown as taxables in Bedford Township in 1779; and John TODD still appears there in 1783. (from Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series, Vol 22, page 162.) [Ref: Jackman TODD p2]

William TODD was made a Justice of the Peace in Bedford County on Nov 3, 1778, and Andrew TODD became a Justice of the Peace in the same county on Aug 17, 1780. (from Pennsylvania Archives, Second series, v.3, p673) [Ref: Jackman TODD p2]

No Todds are shown on lists of taxables of Bedford County, PA, for 1772. It seems fairly certain, therefore, that Andrew TODD and his family moved into Bedford County sometime after 1772 and before 1776. Samuel TODD and John TODD were commissioned First and Second Lieutenants, respectively, in Captain James Anderson's Battalion (or Compnay) of Bedford County Mmilitia, on May 23, 1778. from Pennsylvania Archives, Series 5, vol 5, p77 [Ref: Jackman TODD p2]
