Research Notes:
The HISTORY OF THE PANHANDLE says that she came from Preston County, West Virginia, and this is believed to be correct. The father of Nancy Johns was John Jacobs; he was a Revolutionary soldier, and he lived in Preston County, West Virginia. He was of Welsh descent, and in keeping with old Welsh custom his children took his given name (with 's' added) as their surname. Hence, the name of Nancy Johns for his daughter.
