Research Notes:
identification of her parents as Sir John de Seton & Katherine de Saint Clair departs from the usual account that Catherine was a daughter of Sir William Seton, killed at the battle of Verneuil in 1424. CP 7:594, SP 8:575 qualifies this by saying that Sir William is "said" to have had a daughter Catherine. No documentary evidence is known which establishes the filiation. Sir Richard Maitland, _The History of the House of Seytoun_ made Catherine out to be a daughter of another Sir William Seton, grandfather of the Sir William who fell in 1424. Based on his analysis of the limited available evidence and of the chronology, MacEwen has concluded that it is "extremely probably" that Catherine was a younger daughter of Sir John Seton, son of one Sir William and father of the other. While this solution appears to fit the chronology better, our efforts to provide more definitive evidence will continue. [Ref: Thompson CharlesII v06-100(8)]
