of Seton [Ref: SP V p579]
though the succession is obscure, probably a descendant of Alexander de
Seton, the first of the name to appear in Scottish records, who was
witness to a charter granted by David I about 1150. Philip de Seton,
probably his son, had a charter of confirmation from William the Lion
before 1185 of the lands of Seton Winton and Winchburgh, in Lothian,
which had been his father's. His son Alexander de Seton had a charter of
the same lands about 1195. [Ref: Burke Peerage p687]
