Archbishop of York [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p250, Michael Andrews-Reading SGM
10/20/2006-052209, Richardson RoyalAnc v2p619, Weis AR7 #262]
Saint William [Ref: Weis AR7 #262]
known as St William of York, or William fitz Herbert [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD
p151]
almost always attached to the wrong Herbert FitzHerbert. Clay's EYC clearly
shows that the brother of William, Archbishop of York, d.1154, was Herbert
FitzHerbert, Chamberlain to the King of Scots. [Ref: Alex Maxwell Findlater

In _St William of York_, Dr Christopher Norton, 2006, he suggests that John of
Hexham as "stretching a point, but not perhaps quite to the point of breaking"
in his description of St William as a kinsman of King Roger. Norton traces a
few lines of fairly loose affinity, but no blood link. White had considered
that John might have been simply mistaken about this, or even that "cognatus"
could have meant a countryman, indicating that both William and Roger were of
Norman family background. [Ref: Peter Stewart SGM 10/25/2006-011947]
1136: Treasurer of York and chaplain to King Stephen [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD

Oct 1153: cleared at the papal court by the bishop of Durham, a former

Osbert archdeacon of Richmond was accused of poisoning him [Ref: Keats-Rohan

was regarded as a martyr and miracles were reported at his tomb [Ref:
