HenryII hugh0002 1/10/2008, Moriarty Plantagenet p11, Settipani Chateaudun
p258, Settipani Chateaudun p261]
conjectured son (uncertain) of Hugues I Count of Maine. Given the
continuing use of the name Hugues by the counts of Maine .. this conjecture
has sometimes been stated with some kind of qualification, but often without
such qualification. [Ref: HenryII hugh0002 1/10/2008]
Unfortunately, there is a twenty-four year gap between the last confirmed
appearance of count Hugues I and the first confirmed appearance of Hugues II.
There might even be enough room for a possible additional generation, although
too little is known about the chronology to be sure. Lacking better
information, the qualification of Latouche (1910), "peur-etre un fils de
Hughes Ier ou un autre de ses parents", seems to reflect the situation well.

much younger than his brothers Hugh and Fulcoin, strongly indicates that
Hugh II married into the house of Vermandois, close allies of the counts
of Blois and frequent rivals of Hugh Capet [Ref: Keats-Rohan Maine p196]
