he is often stated to have married Eleanor, widow of Alexander (de Bruce), Earl of Carrick, but though she had five husbands it is pretty clear that he was not one of them. Others say that she married their only daughter and heir, Eleanor, but there seems to be no evidence of her existence [Ref: CP III p58(b)]
