it used to be thought that Walter the Deacon's Easton was not Little Easton
but Great Easton, also in Essex; but Round has shown that this is due to a
mistake, and that it was in fact Little Easton [Ref: Smith Hastings p3]
apparently married twice, first wife unknown (mother of Robert fitz Walter),
second wife possibly a Saxon princess (mother of Edith, Walter, Alexander, and
a daughter) [Ref: Smith Hastings p119, Smith Hastings p122]
1086: Domesday tenant-in-chief in Suffolk and Essex [Ref: Keats-Rohan DP p454]
Domesday held the fees of Bures, Bromley, Chesterford, Purleigh, Little
Eston, and Wix, co Essex, Bilston and Swilland, co Suffolk, and Sezincote,

held the manor of Little Easton when Domesday Book was compiled [Ref: Sanders

held at Domesday a barony of 10 fees, comprising seven manors and centered on
Little Easton in Essex; five of these manors had belonged to Queen Edith, and

part of his fief had previously been held by his brother Theoderic; other
