succeeded in minority to Wix, having had the gift of his great-uncle when in the cradle or scarce out of it [Ref: Smith Hastings p121]

1166: tenant of his brother Robert de HASTINGS [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p506]

after his brother Robert's death his title to Wix was challenged on many hands, but he retained it [Ref: Smith Hastings p121]

Apr 1189: first public appearance, when he recovered by fine a hide and a half of land at Wix for 10 marks quittance from (his half-sister's son) Ralph de Exeter [Ref: Smith Hastings p7]

Mich 1194: owing ten marks for a writ to be recognized as holding half a fee in Wix [Ref: Smith Hastings p7]

married only after 1200, wife's name unknown [Ref: Smith Hastings p121]

Mich 1209: last public mention, when he was owing half a mark "pro habenda mansione." [Ref: Smith Hastings p8]

dead by Mich 1210, leaving a daughter under age whose costody and marriage had been granted to Alan Basset for 100 marks. At the death of Sir Philip Basset of Wycombe, younger son of Alan in 1271, he held under Sir Matthew de Lovaine the manor of Wix "by courtesy of England of the inheritance of Helewise his wife" [Ref: Smith Hastings p8]
