abt 1162: succeeded his father as lord of Little Easton, Essex [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p506]

older antiquarians thought that Robert de Hastings acquired the barony with his (anonymous) wife, heir to a family of Windsors, but they did not suggest how it came to the Windsors from Walter the Deacon. There does not seem to be any direct evidence for the existence of this Windsor heires apart from a pedigree of Windsor compiled in 1582, and beginning with Walter fitz Other whose second son is shown as Robert de Windsor, succeeded by his son William, and he by his (unnamed) daughter and heir married to Robert de Hastings. No authority is cited for the nameless daughter or her marriage, which is evidently a pure guess. [Ref: Smith Hastings p3]

1166: answered for 10 knights' fees de veteri and for 2 1/4 de novo; later scutages were paid on 10 knights' fees [Ref: Sanders Baronies p130(4)]

records give no evidence of how the lands of Little Easton passed to Robert. It is assumed that William's lands passed to a daughter named Isabel, as Robert de Hastings and Isabel his wife are mentioned in 1158-62. Alice, daughter of Robert, seems to have been in control of the lands in May 1191 [Ref: Sanders Baronies p130(5)]

it was no doubt his Yorkshire stepfather (not before 1181) who found him a Yorkshire bride, Maud, daughter of Roger de Flamville of Fryton by Ivetta de Arches, and coheiress to her brother Hugh [Ref: Smith Hastings p121]
