the most accurate pedigree of the family is that given at CP VIII p143, but it
contains errors, the most notable being the failure to distinguish between
John MacAlan - who succeeded his uncle Ewen between 1334 and 1338 and died
about 1355 - and his son and heir John, the husband of Janet Isaac. Andrew B.
W. MacEwen is presently writing an article on these generations for Notes and
Queries of the Society of West Highland & Island Historical Research [Ref:
Thompson CharlesII v12-250(37)]
revived the power of his clan, a member of the "Highland Party" who later
made peace with David II and attended councils and parliaments in 1365-69
