CP XII suggests he was a younger son of William fitz Walter, son of Walter fitz Other, but he is as likely to have been a younger son of Hugh son of Walter fitz Other, who augmented his father's grant of tithes in Horsley and Compton, Surrey, to Chertey abbey in the time of William Giffard bishop of Winchester [Ref: Keats-Rohan DD p788]
