Jul 1722: to Nov 1722: appears on Muster Roll of a company of his Majesty's service under command of Capt Samuel Bernard. Quality Sentinal [Ref: Baker AUSTIN p100]

Nov 20 1723: entered service, until May 8 1724; served 24 weeks 3 days [Ref: Baker AUSTIN p101]

Jan 12 1725: appears on a muster roll of 6 of a company under the command of Capt Joseph Kellogg, Quality Centinel. Served Nov 17 1725 until Jan 5 1726, 7 weeks one day [Ref: Baker AUSTIN p101]

moved to Sheffield, MA from Suffield CT with his cousin Anthony AUSTIN. The family was a prominent one in Suffield, where their grandfather Anthony AUSTIN, Sr., was Town Clerk for many years. In Sheffield, Nathaniel was one of the leading men of the town. [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p34]

early settper of Sheffield MA, and he was appointed on a committee for building a meeting house at the first town meeting of Sheffield held on Jan 16 1733. [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p35]

held title of Lieutenant at the time of death of first wife on Oct 2 1754, and later in town records was listed as a captain [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p35]

Jan 1764: commissioned in the militia in the County of Berkshire, rank Captain. Col Wm Williams [Ref: Baker AUSTIN p102]

delegate to the County Convention (Berkshire Co, MA) in 1774 convened at Stockbridge on Jul 6 1774, where the Convention advised the inhabitants of county of Berkshire to non-consumption of British Manufactures. He was a member of the committee that made the report to the town meeting held Jun 18 1776 upon the adoption of which, the inhabitants resolved to take up arms [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p35]

Private in Capt Jonathan Wadsworth Conn Reg't of militia commanded by Col. Thaddeus Cook at Stillwater in State of New York disabled in service of U.S. Battle of Stillwater was on or about Sep 19 1777 [Ref: Moore AUSTIN p35]
