At age of 18 he went to the northern frontier on an exploring expedition in company with nineteen others. When near Crown Point they came upon some Indians amusing themselves in the water, and fired upon them. Soon after, they started their return trip, only to be overtaken by a swarm of savages thirsting for revenge. The company scattered, each man fighting behind his own tree. Twelve of the nineteen were cut off and killed on the spot. Aaron Ward was one of the seven who escaped. [Ref: Martyn WARD p98]

He afterwards followed the sea, was captured and held seven years a prisoner in Spain. [Ref: Martyn WARD p98]
