1621: in will of John Gordon, squire of Assington Manor, he left his grandon, John Gurdon the younger, "the messuage or farm house wherein one Thomas French doth now inhabit called Garland's". This farm had recently been purchased of Sir William Waldgrave [Ref: FrenchRL FRENCH p8]

Nov 17 1636: Rev. Nathanial Rogers, vicar of Assington, came to New England, and was pastor at Ipswich until his death in 1665. Four other Assington families came with him, including that of Robinson. Likely the elder French arrived either the end of 1636, or in 1637 [Ref: Linzee PARKER-RUGGLES p418]
