1491-2: on list of the homage at the court 7 Henry VII [Ref: Bartlett STONE
p19]
1500-1 (16 Henry VII) held an estate of the Manor of Bovills in Ardleigh
called "Walles," and an estate in the adjoining parish of Great Bromley
called "Goodenes" where he settled and resided [Ref: Bartlett STONE p19]
will dated May 12 1506, probated Feb 10 1510/1. mentions wife Elizabeth,
son David (receiving "Goodenes"), Walter (reeiving "Walles"), sons Michael,
William. To be buried "in the chiche of moche Brymley" [Ref: Bartlett STONE
p21]
context of the will indicates that Simon Stone was a prosperous and
substantia yeoman, and his direction that he be buried in the church is
significant of his superior local position, as only the landed gentry and the
very wealthiest of the yeomanry secured sepulture wthin the rural church
edifies, all others being buried in the churchyard [Ref: Bartlett STONE p22]
