Research Notes:
Obituary appeared in the Ottawa Daily Times: Mrs. Otho (Gertie) Latimer, 96 year old Former resident of Marseilles who resided the past 71/2 years at Pleasant View Lutheran Home in Ottawa, died at the Home a few minutes after midnight today, following an illness of one year. She and her husband had been married 691/2 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Seals-Campbell Chapel in Marseilles, the Rev. Henry Peterson, chaplain of the Pleasant View Home officiating, assisted by the Rev. L.E. Harrison of the Marseilles First Congregational Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday. Memorials to the Luther Home or the Marseilles Congregational Church are the preferred means of Remembrance.
Born in Miller Township, January 22, 1878, Mrs. Latimer was the daughter of John and Amanda Brodbeck Barber. In 1904 she married Otho Latimer of Marseilles. She was educated in the LaSalle County and Normal schools and taught for many years before her marriage. She was past matron and 50 year member of the Ramona Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the First Congregational Church in Marseilles.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs, Clifford (Winnifred) Loomis of Ottawa, two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Mrs. Edith Youmans of Tonica. She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. Pallbearers will be George Barber, Lawrence Drackley, Charles Youmans, Wilbur Parr, James Latimer and Earl Latimer.
