the parentage of Eudoxia has been the subject of much discussion, owing to an
error of Du Congo, but it is now agreed that it is well established. Her
grandson, King Jmes I of Aragon, in his Chronicle of Aragon distinctly calls
her the daughter of the Emperor Manuel. She had been betrothed to the King of
Aragon but before her arrival in the West he had jilted her and married Sancha
of Castile and thereupon he provided her with a husband, the Seigneur of
Montpelier. [Ref: Moriarty Plantagenet p132]
her parentage has been endlessly debated. Eudokia was certainly a
granddaughter or great-granddaughter of the Eastern Roman Emperor Ioannes II
Komnenos (1087-1143) and his wife Pyriska of Hungary [Ref: Evans Habsburgs
