Cecil N. Danley
Former Claysville fire chief
Cecil N. Danley, 70, of Wayne Street, Claysville died unexpectedly Tuesday
May 31, 1994, in Washington Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1923 in West Finley Township, a son of John Danley and
Nellie Danley Montgomery.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Claysville, where he was past
superintendent and choir member.
He was a graduate of Claysville High School and Penn Commercial College.
Mr. Danley retired in 1986 as the general manager of S. White Sons,
Claysville.
He was the past commander of the Claysville American Legion Post 639, a past
president of the former Claysville Lions Club, the retired Day Chief of the
Claysville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks
Lodge 776 and a member of the Claysville Sportsmens Club.
Mr. Danley was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America, worked with
handicapped children and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Danley served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific
Theater, where he was assigned special duty as a pharmacist's mate with the
Marine Corps.
Mr. Danley received a personal letter of appreciation for his support of
Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
On July 28, 1945, in Washington, he married Hilda M. Taylor, who survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Pamela J. Danley Fowler
of Columbia, Md, a brother, Paul Danley of Washington, a grandson, Michael
Fowler, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Betty Plants and Mary Loar.
