Research Notes:
1279-1212 BC: Pharoh, Throne name "Usermaetre-Setpenre" [Ref: Dodson Egypt
p291]
Pharaoh of Egypt [Ref: Settipani LGA p175]
reigned 67 years, one of the longer ones of history [Ref: Settipani LGA p175]
he devoted himself to a vast construction program, that also contributes a
large part to his modern notoriety. The doscovery of his mummy, in an
exceptional state of preservation, helps understand the achievements of the
consecrated pharaoh [Ref: Settipani LGA p175]
no appearance of a link between Ramssides and the pharaohs of the XVIII
dynasty. The paternal forefathers of Ramses seem to be provincial
nobility, strictly military. [Ref: Settipani LGA p175]
Ramessides have claimed to relate themselves to the former kings of
Tanis, but this is doubtful [Ref: Settipani LGA p176]
only apparent link originates with the marriage of Ramses; his first
spouse (or maybe second), Mout-Nefertari, was probaly issue from the Pharaoh
usurper Au, and thus, by the women, XVIII dynasty. [Ref: Settipani LGA p176]
Depicted with his father in the latter's Abydos temple [Ref: Dodson Egypt
p175]
key documents for the study of the children of Ramesses II are the series
of processions of royal offspring that are to be found in a number of the
king's temples. Such depictions reversed the earlier practice of keeping
royal children, particularly boys, in the background, except where they
held substantive state offices. [Ref: Dodson Egypt p164]
