Research Notes:
1187-1185 BC: Pharaoh of Egypt, throne name "Userkhaure" [Ref: Dodson Egypt
p291]
origins are obscure, but name suggests familial links with 19th dynasty; most
probably a grandsonof Rameses II by one of his numerous offspring [Ref: Dodson
Egypt p186]
clear that he was strictly speaking a usurper, but might have been a
descendant of Ramses II. Example of Amenmesse, also considered a usurper, but
probably a son or gradson of Ramses II proves it. [Ref: Settipani LGA p173]
pharaohs of the XX dynasty have all related themselves to the glorious
pharaoh (Ramses II The Great) [Ref: Settipani LGA p173]
seems assured that Sethnakit did not descend of Ramses in a direct way,
but a link by the women has been suggested [Ref: Settipani LGA p174]
Setnakht's own successions tele indicates that he was not in line for the
throne, so if he was a son of Ramses II it was almost certainly by a minor
concubine. Most Egyptologists don't consider the 19th and 20th dynasty to be
related. The fact that neither Setnakht nor Ramses III state a connection is
a good point, though hardly conclusive. [Ref: Chris Bennett SGM 10/23/1995]
