Agathokles of Baktriane claimed to be descendant of Alexander. In his
monies of c.168/7 have figures on reverse Alexander, Antiochos (II), Diodotos,
Euthydemos, Demetrios. The last three being known kings of Baktriane,
predecessors of Agathokles [Ref: Settipani LGA p133]
Mithridates VI Eupator (111-63) boasted after Justin to descend from
Achemenides by his father and Seleucides as wellas of Alexander the Great
by his mother. [Ref: Settipani LGA p134]
Honoratiane Polycarmis Phainarete, daughter of Honoratianos Polycharmos of
Athens (beginning of 3rd century AD) said she was issue of Perikles, Konon,
and Alexander the Great. She descends probably from Tiberios Claudios
Leonides VII the Artemeisia daughter of Alexandros. This Alexandros mentioned
without a demotique or patronym is certainly not Athenien; probably a
descendant of Alexandros of Megapolis [Ref: Settipani LGA p134]
Basil I of Byzance descended by his father Alexander and of Philip of
Macedonia, and by his mother Constantin the Great (if one believes the Vita
Basilii written by his grandson Constantin VII). Last statement may be simply
on account of the fact that Basil said himself issue of the Arsacides of
Armenie, the through them the Seleucides of Syria. [Ref: Settipani LGA p135]
Princes of Badakshan in India, to the 13th century AD, boasted themselves
descendants of Alexander and of the daughter of Dareios III that had
married Baktra. That means they claimed to relate themselves to the
Indo-Greek kings. [Ref: Settipani LGA p135]
by the end of the third century, a descent of Seleucides was interpreted as
implying a direct descent of Alexander. Two explanations: (1) the ancestry is
completely fictitious and rests on a spiritual relationship of Alexander
towards his Seleukos successor, and it would be vain to look for a
genealogical connection really between the two men, invented or not, and (2) a
physical genealogy, invented or not, has been produced in the third century to
link up the blood the Seleucides to the time of Alexander the Great. It is
necessary to prefer the second. [Ref: Settipani LGA p135]
after Alexander's death, family bloodshed began immediately with Stateira's
killing by Roxane. The latter became the mother of the king's posthumous son,
Alexander IV, who joined his uncle, Philip III, as joint ruler of the empire.
This arrangement was soon caught up in the rivalry betweenPhilip's wife,
Eurydice, and Olympias. An attempt by the former to replace regent Polyperchon
with Cassander resulted in Philip and Eurydice's capture and death at the
hands of Olympias, thus leaving her grandson, Alexander IV, as sole king.
However, shortly afterwards, Olympias was condemned to death at the bidding of
Cassander, and Alexander and Roxane were taken into custody. They were killed
by Cassander as Alexander approached adulthood, as was Heracles, Alexander
III's other son. The direct Argaeid line was thus extinct. [Ref: Dodson Egypt
