Research Notes:
In the 1850 Census, Josephine is listed as C.E., presumably 'Canadian Emmigrant', and as being age 15. Her father, Freeman is the only 'Miller' listed for the 1850 Census in Newport for 1850 (age 42, farmer), and is listed as emigrating from Canada as well. The obituary for Josephine, Rapid City Journal (Dec. 28, 1904) lists Josephine as born in 'Stanstead, P.I.' [sic, prob. P.Q]. According to 'Forests and Trimmings, History of Stanstead Cty, Quebec', B.F. Hubbard, 1874/1978, p. 232, a Freeman Miller, who married Roxana Sias, was born in Stanstead, Quebec. Roxana Sias is also listed in the 1850 census of Newport, VT. as wife of Freeman Miller. [Ref: Erik Hanson 2/16/2009]
