The date of death of Dr. Stephen Peabody has yet to be confirmed. According to S.H. Peabody (1909), it is listed as about 1808. However, there is some doubt on this as according to the 'Barbour Papers' (or 'Descendents of Captain George Barbour of Medfield [1643-1900]', compiled by Edmund Dana Barbour, Boston, 1907), VI, p. 1667, Dr. Stephen Peabody had another son. Apparently Dr. Stephen Peabody married a second time, Susan Trim, and their son, Lewis Royce Peabody was born December 1810, Montpelier, VT (m. Matilda Farr, July 1842). The listing in Barbour's book is as follows: '4168. Matilda Farr[8] etc . . . born in Malone NY 4-22-1821 m. July 1842 Lewis Royce Peabody, b. in Montpelia [sic], VT., Dec. 1810, son of Dr. Peabody of Montpelia VT. (Sallie Cooper, csalliejo@hotmail.com; private email, 11 Mar. 2000--nb, Sallie claims that her aunt has proof that Dr. Stephen Peabody was the father of Lewis Royce). However, if Dr. Stephen died in 1808, then this would put the birth of their son more than nine months after he died. Nevertheless, the date that S.H. Peabody gives for Dr. Stephen's death are only approximate, and it may have been in 1809 or 1910.
Dr. Stephen Peabody is listed in the 'Vermont Warnings Out', vol. 1, A.M. Rollins, Maine, 1995, p. 327. Rollins notes that according to the 'Town Records of Plainfield, Washington, Vt., vol. 1', p. 36, Stephen Peabody and his family were warned out on 6 January, 1808.
Stephen Peabody is listed in the 1800 census of Vermont, but is not listed in the 1810 or 1820 Vermont census. [Ref: Erik Hanson 2/16/2009]
