Obitrary appeared in the Ottawa Republican Times: L.E. BENTLEY DIES; RITES AT 2 THURSDAY
LeRoy Elmer Bentley 8 died at 8 A.M. today in Ryburn Memorial Hospital at Ottawa. Funeral rites will be at 2 P.M. Thursday at the Seals-Campbell Chapel. The Reverend Harry J. Harwood, Marseilles Methodist Church minister will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel after 7 P.M. tonight. The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the Methodist Church building fund.
Mr. Bentley was born August 7, 1868 on a farm near Eaton Rapids, Michigan, the son of Sidney and Jane Porter Bentley. He attended rural school in that area, also Ferris Institute at Big Rapids, Michigan and Cleary School of Business at Ypsilanti, Michigan. I Daggett and Stevenson, Michigan he was superintendent of schools. In 1899 he married Lora Estelle Barber of north of Marseilles and worked in the Howe and Davidson Company office which later became the National Biscuit Carton Company. He held that post for 25 years.
For thirty years he served on the Marseilles Public Library Board. He retired that post owing to ill health. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Armour (Edith) Danielson of Miller Township, with whom he made his home the past six years, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His wife died in 1947. A son Russell, was drowned in 1922. A son and daughter died in infancy. He had been bedfast since having suffered a hip fracture recently at the Danielson home. [Ref: Ray Brodbeck 7/29/2008]
