There were two Robert MONTFORT s, one a son of William MONTFORT and one a
grandson of William MONTFORT (son of first Robert's brother Baldwin). See e.g.
pedigree chart in Dugdale Warwickshire p1008. VCH Warwick is claimed by
Douglas Richardson to distinguish the two Roberts [Ref: Richardson MCA p110]
Another manor of Monkspath ... It may have been part of the manor of Tanworth
that the Earl of Warwick leased in 1348 to Sir Peter de Mountfort. His
descendant Sir William Mountfort held 1/4 fee here of the Earl of Warwik in
1400, and died seised thereof in 1452, having in the previous year settled the
manor in tail male on his son Robert. As Robert left only a daughter, the
manor passed to his nephew Sir Simon, who bestowed it in 1479 upon his son
John and his wife Anne, previously widow of Lord de Say and later wife of
Humphrey Seymour [Ref: WTM via british-history.ac.uk/vch/warks/vol5/pp165-175]
