succeeded John (his father or brother) as sheriff [Ref: CP VIII p587]
the Terregles manuscrips history makes Edward Maxwell (a crusader with
'Lewis the ffrench king' in 1246) the eldest son of Aymer. There was an
"Edward of Maxwell' in 1248, but, if really the eldest son, he must have
died before 1266, when Sir Herbert was heir of Aymer [Ref: SP VI p471]
