obtained land from the Grahames, and is usually said to have married Margaret, sister and coheir of John Graham, of Dalkieth and Abercorn [Ref: CP I p310]

acquired the Lordship of Dalkeith (an old possession of the Grahams), the Barony of Aberdour, in Fife, lands in Tweeddale, and great territories in Liddesdale, Eskdale, and Ewesdale, which had been forfeited by the Soulises and Lovels [Ref: Burke Peerage p1428]

obtained the Barony of Dalkeith through wife [Ref: Burke Peerage p1416]
