Research Notes:
father was a son of the Duke of Athol, Scotland, who became involved in a political conspiracy against the reigning monarch and was compelled to seek safety in flight. Friends placed Lord Murray inside an empty hogshead, then headed it up, being careful to leave some aperture for air, carted him to a seaport, got their "freight" on board, and liberated him as soon as the essel was well out to sea. He married and had several children, but names are all lost except that of Nicholas [Ref: Beers WashingtonCoPA p199]
